Shooting at Ugly Locations | Jasper, TN Laundromat
I have had it in my head for a while to start doing sessions at places I wouldn’t normally shoot. I get asked so often where I find my locations. Or “how do you find these magical locations?!” Honestly most of them aren’t that magical. They are usually on the side of the road; or in a parking lot; or somewhere totally “unmagical”. But for this series I really wanted to illustrate that even an UGLY spot, such as the local laundromat, could really be awesome. The laundromat was dirty, full of people and distractions. Check out some of the fun we had, plus some iPhone shots of what the spot really looked like. When choosing your photographer, find one that knows how to work the angles and focus on the client.
I am going to show you the entire set first. Then scroll to the end to see the “before and afters”. I want to make a series out of this so please feel free to send me locations you think are UGLY, and let’s make it a challenge!
And a HUGE thank you to Ashley H for modeling for these literally on a moment’s notice!! Thank you sweet girl.
Now that you’ve had a chance to scroll through the pretty images. Let’s talk shop. I didn’t do this set to convince you that we should shoot your senior pictures at the laundromat. Or if you’re a photographer, I am not out to encourage you to start seeking out ugly locations. More so I want to make it very obvious that you can shoot ANYWHERE. The focus has to be on the client. The connection has to be there. When you’re looking for a photographer, find the one that you feel is really going to stoke that connection with YOU. You are the most important part of the session.
And now that you’ve seen the pretty images, enjoy these cell phone images vs the final product.
