Skunk House | Hemp and CBD Retail Shop in South Pittsburg, TN
I recently had the opportunity to visit a newer business to our area, a hemp and CBD retail store called the Skunk House in South Pittsburg, TN. The proprietor Kevin Hudson was very kind and let me interview him for a Local Business Spotlight. His shop carries products such as CBD oils, gummies and tinctures and hemp flowers. It’s also home to several paintings, carvings and fiber works from local artists.
How did you get your idea or concept for business?
I was already in the business in Colorado. It was sort of cutting edge at the time. We wanted to see the effects of CBD on the autism spectrum.
What was your mission at the outset?
Really just to bring wellness with high quality products.
How do you advertise?
I’ve tried radio, tv, Facebook, Instagram, newspaper, and social media is the winner.
What are your company’s goals?
The original goal was to bring an economic boost to the local area. This town has a lot of opportunities that allows for economic growth
What is unique about your business?
I am the only one that has it. I am the only actual CBD store here and I also provide an outlet for local artists.
What are your responsibilities as an owner?
Inventory, customer acquisition, legalities and new products
How does your company help the community?
I support local manufacturers such as Haygood Farms or the River Valley Commodities. So by buying their products it helps their families and stimulates the local economy. It boosts the wellness of our local area as well.
If you had one piece of advice to someone thinking of starting their own business, what would it be?
Do it.
What do you love about your job?
I make a difference in people’s lives. I have a customer who’s daughter has two forms of epilepsy, she’s gone from having 200-300 seizures a week to less than one. What I personally like is that it’s cutting edge.

It’s really a wonderful shop with a great atmosphere. Kevin’s customers are really greatly varied and he’s very friendly and knowledgeable with any questions you may have. Trust me, I asked a lot of them! It was very interesting to speak with him and some of the customers and hear why they used the products and what relief it brought them. I definitely recommend stopping by and checking it out for yourself.
