My 2016 Year in Review

I had an amazing year! I started my business in April of 2013, and since then it has been a part time venture for me. Chasing my passion and following my dream. During the day, I worked a few different part time jobs, a full time job, all at different times. In July of this past year I had a major anxiety related event at a job that I took after my divorce. I took this job for several reasons, it’s an amazing place to work, the company really takes care of their employees, there’s awesome potential for growth and the pay was great. In July, I started having anxiety issues, I think it was a compilation of stress and some depression from the divorce, and was having breakdowns at my new job. I started to realize that life, itself, is so very short. My kids are older now, Gracie is 12 and Ryder is 10, and that happened in the blink of an eye. And while I had landed this fantastic job, I did not love it, I did not love driving 2-hours round trip to said job every day, I am not really an “office” person, and I did not feel fulfilled in any aspect of this job.

When I sat down and truly thought about the things in my life that do make me feel FULFILLED, I quickly realized what makes my soul happy. Photography, people, striving to be the best I can be within my craft. Consistently learning and growing. SO I took that leap of faith. I resigned my position at the company. I devoted the second half of 2016 to completely re-branding my business, investing in my equipment and myself. I set 1, 2.5, 5 and 10 year goals for my business. I work from home, my commute to my sessions is less than 15 minutes.  I decided that 2017 is the year for no excuses. I’ve put myself out there, in situations I never would have normally done. I have been printed in local newspapers, submitted to various publications, I have advertising in programs, local businesses, I worked a local festival, I’ve given away sessions as marketing techniques AND I became a local chapter director of a Help Portrait event!! Here are my goals I’ve set myself for the future:

1 Year Goal: Double clientele (halfway there!), become profitable (check), maintain the mini goals I have set for myself. Blog and Social network regularly (still working on this!!). Teach classes (Starting in January 2017!!!).

2.5 Year Goal: Open a studio (nowhere close yet, but plans are in the works!), continue my fashion photography education (in progress), and invest in studio lights and equipment (I am buying piece by piece until I have everything I need.

5 Year Goal: Own a reputable studio and on-location photography business, host annual workshops and classes, successfully distribute my knowledge in ways that are both free and profitable for me. Youtube and Blog to have grown in ways that are profitable for me.

10 Year Goal: Be at a level that is profitable for me, where I don’t have to work as hard, and have my reputation and hard work speak for itself. Successfully have introduced fashion and glamour photography to my region. I want to be known as ‘the photographer’ for my area.

I wouldn’t have any success without the support of my amazing clients. It is because of your trust and loyalty that I am able to do what I love.

In SIX months of 2016 I had 74 sessions, 6 Creative Shoots, 3 weddings, a Fall Festival, took Headshots for 3 women, photographed 2 local business and had countless numbers of faces in front of my lens. Here’s looking forward to 2017!!

Foster | Newborn | Jasper, TN Newborn Photography

I have been photographing the Roach family since I first began taking pictures professionally in 2013. I’ve captured Gunner growing up, birthday parties, fall family pictures, Haley & Jamie’s wedding, maternity and now their newest addition, Foster. Whether they know it or not, they are some of my favorite clients. Simply because, as they’ve grown, so have I. I can look back through their images and see my growth with each new milestone. Gunner was my third newborn, I had a few lightbulb moments during his session, and he gave me some of my confidence that I use still today. Now, three years later, they’ve welcome this sweet new baby girl to the family. She really wasn’t feeling it during our first shoot, so we rescheduled and they came back a different day. She didn’t sleep, not even for a second. She was far too concerned with watching everything that was going on! With all of that being said, here are my favorites from Foster’s newborn session.
